Lost in a crowd

Call for Liberation?

Chop! Chop! Chop! My day has started as I cut away the potatoes. I have to keep an eye on the stove, the other on the clock as I cannot afford to overcook the breakfast. From one bowl to another my hands are busy doing the juggling act as I am being reminded by my tummy that I can't afford to have a delayed meal. "Hurry up!!", mumbled the acids inside me and I am sweating a river standing close to the stove. I can hear some music being played on TV. Oh, how I miss being a careless child on a holiday with my lazy ass on the couch staring at the idiot box and my meals would magically appear before me.

Holding back my manly tears, I now turn to my next challenge which is to wrestle the dough. Not too hard not too soft, and I have to be Mr. Gordon to judge its firmness or else my clients won't be happy. Another song is on TV and I look back to have a peek into the living room. Yeah, she is there with a pleasant smile glancing at the visuals. I twist, punch and squeeze all my frustration on the dough and I proceed to fry them up. As the oil starts to boil and unites with the dough, I am greeted with the eagerly awaited aroma...I give it a gentle blow and the aroma makes its way to the other rooms in the house. The lady has got the scent and now she knows it is a sign that the meal is ready. She comes behind me and I was secretly hoping that she was coming to assist me. In an affirmative tone, she orders me to lay out the plates and start serving. I do as she says and then go back to the kitchen to clean the place up.

Finally, after a nearly three-hour battle, I am finally ready to have my well-earned breakfast. She looks at me and asks, "So how was it cooking all alone today?". My thoughts went back to the (young) days when I would lazily watch sports on TV and shamelessly demand food from the kitchen. I wanted to cry but I held my nerve and just gave a blank face. But I had learned my lesson as we served each other a very delicious happy breakfast.

For the men who are reading this, go on cook for your loved ones. The experience is rewarding.
